Obscene and abhorred were used by Serena Williams to describe her performance and Auckland's wind as she and older sister Venus (due to arm injury) bowed out of the ASB Classic as the top two seeds and major drawcards departed in different fashion but, ultimately, the result is the same; they are headline acts in Auckland no more. Both are gone before the quarterfinal stage.

And then there was one. Just like last year, Caroline Wozniacki is the last remaining star at the ASB Classic with her win over Varvara Lepchenko of USA to conclude a drama-filled day 3 of the ASB Classic.
